A story of possibility

Beginnings do not have to define boundaries.

The founder identity is testimony, not a second corporate logo. The institution is larger than one individual.

Buang Moloto, Founder and Chairperson

Founder & Chairperson

A person born and raised in Tlhabane can learn, grow, lead, build, serve, fail, become, give — and continue becoming. That journey is evidence of possibility, not evidence of exceptionalism.

Metallurgy taught a way of seeing: value may already exist inside what first appears ordinary. That conviction now sits at the centre of the Foundation’s community work.

When an institution carries the name of a living person, that person becomes accountable to the institution. Conduct protects reputation through integrity, service and consistency.

The founder’s role in communication is vision, voice, judgement and stewardship. The organisation must learn to discover stories independently.

A life shaped by Tlhabane, metallurgy, faith and service.

Buang Moloto is a South African extraction metallurgist, entrepreneur, community builder, arts patron and lay preacher whose life has moved between industry, faith, civic leadership and community service.

Born and raised in Tlhabane, Rustenburg, he grew up in a community that continues to shape how he understands belonging, opportunity and responsibility. His professional formation is in extraction metallurgy. He completed a National Higher Diploma in Extraction Metallurgy in 1997, a Management Development Programme through Wits Business School in 2002, and an MBA from De Montfort University in 2005.

His leadership journey began early. He served as a student leader in the Black Management Forum in 1996, later as Secretary of the Black Management Forum’s Rustenburg structure from 1998 to 2000, and as Chairperson of the Black Metallurgist Forum from 2001 to 2005. In the mining and metallurgical profession he went on to serve as President of the Mine Metallurgical Managers Association in 2013–2014.

His civic leadership has always remained close to home. From 2014 to 2018 he chaired the Tlhabane Community Forum, helping convene community voices around issues of shared concern. In church life, he has served for many years as Chairperson of the ELCSA Western Diocese Bethlehem Parish and as a lay preacher — a role through which faith, reflection and service have remained central to his public life.

Buang is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Linhleko Projects, a mineral-processing company whose work reflects his technical roots in metallurgy and his continuing belief that value can be recovered where others may overlook it. That same way of seeing has become a defining metaphor for the Foundation: something precious may already be present even when it is not immediately visible.

He founded the Buang Moloto Foundation as an institutional expression of a conviction developed over many years of community, church, professional and cultural involvement: people should not be defined by what they lack. They should be seen for the dignity, talent, history and possibility already within them.

The Foundation’s four pillars — Helping the Needy, Uplifting the Youth, Honouring the Elderly and Strengthening Society — reflect that belief in practical form. Through relief, education support, the arts, choral music, sport, elder recognition, community awards and other programmes, the Foundation seeks to create spaces where people can be seen, strengthened and celebrated.

The Foundation carries his name deliberately, but not to make the institution about one person. For Buang, the name is also a discipline: his own conduct affects the Foundation, and the Foundation’s conduct affects his name. The relationship therefore demands integrity, accountability and service.

His story is not presented as exceptionalism. It is evidence of possibility — that a person can begin in an ordinary place, continue learning, serve across different spheres, fail, grow, build, give and remain unfinished.

He continues to describe the work in the simplest terms: see the value, strengthen the person, celebrate the light.
